Troubleshooting
Additional for CLV490 integrated in OTS400 Omni Tracking System
3. The data content of the bar code output
by the CLV490 is incorrect or incom-
plete.
• The data format on the host interface is
parameterized incorrectly in the CLV490.
• The CLV490 suppresses the last charac-
ter in the bar code.
• In the "CLV-Setup" program: choose the
HOST INTERFACE tab, DATA FORMAT section.
Are the values correct?
• In the "CLV-Setup" program: choose the
CODE CONFIGURATION tab, SYMBOLOGIES
section. Click the EDIT button of the rele-
vant code.
Is the T
RANSMIT CHECK DIGIT checkbox
activated? Change if necessary.
Download to CLV490!
4. The CLV490 transfers the status ST=3
to the host in the reading result (output-
ting of ST disabled by default)
The CLV490 has diagnosed a device error
in the self-test.
Switch the CLV490 off and on again. Does
the "Device Ready" LED light up? If not,
contact the SICK Service department.
Malfunction Possible cause Remedy

Malfunction Possible cause Remedy
1. OTS
Reading mode: "Start/stop"
– The "Read Result" LED on CLV490
(default setting: Good Read) does not
light up at the end of reading
interval
If the CLV490 uses object information from
OTC400 or other CLV490:
CLV490 is not receiving any object informa-
tion.
In the "CLV-Setup" program: choose
R
EADING CONFIGURATION tab, FOCUS CONTROL
section: "OTS height information" selected?
2. OTS
Reading mode: "Tracking"
– The "Read Result" LED on CLV490
(default setting: Good Read) does not
light up during reading process
• CLV490 is not receiving any increment
information from OTC400.
• Release points incorrectly parameterized
in the CLV490.
• Check connection and parameterization
of incremental encoder on the OTC400,
see OTS400 Operating Instructions (no.
8008869, English edition).
• In the "CLV-Setup" program: choose the
D
EVICE CONFIGURATION tab, click the TRACK-
ING PARAMETERS button: are the values
correct? Is the object release point of
CLV490 within the limits of the object re-
lease point of OTC400?
3. OTS
Reading mode: "Tracking "
– OTC400 not sending any reading
results to the host
• If an incremental encoder is connected:
the sensor is transferring an incorrect
conveyor speed to the arrangement. As
a result, the OTC400 cannot correctly as-
sign bar codes to the objects.
• If an internal increment pulse is used in
the arrangement:
the pulse does not match the actual con-
veyor speed.
• Check contact between the incremental
encoder and conveyor belt
• If objects are read on a section between
belts, checks whether the conveyor
speed of the two belts is different
• Adapt the internal increment pulse to the
actual conveyor speed or connect an ex-
ternal incremental encoder to OTC 400 if
the conveyor speed is not constant
(parameterize switching input according-
ly)
